Dear ESP workshop members:

Our progress report conference call is about two months away, (7/31, 11 AM PDT). To ensure that we actually have something to report, I suggest that the workgroup leaders contact your group members in the next week or so to discuss how to move forward. Here are some possible goals for July 31:

Overall schema

  • 1) Identify a set of default ESP’s for “unknown” volcanoes
  • 2) Draft preliminary ESP’s for some generic volcano types (basalt, andesite, silicic) following Table 1in the meeting notes.

Grain size distribution

(Bill Rose, chair; Alain Volentik, Larry Mastin and Adam Durant)

  • 1) Identify a preliminary “default” grain-size distribution.
  • 2) Offer a preliminary roadmap for refining the GSD.

Sensitivity analysis

(Larry Mastin, chair; Rene Servranckx, Barbara Stunder, Ken Dean, Peter Webley)

  • 1) Offer, say, two cases for which sensitivity analysis could be conducted; one in the tropics, one at high latitude.
  • 2) Agree on a strategy for the sensitivity analyses.

Eruption list workgroup

  • 1) Put together a list of first-order volcanoes that can be individually characterized.
