AVO Image Flipper

Sector: Choose an area to view. The resolution of each sector is chosen for a convenient area coverage
and not based on any property of the data being displayed.
Data Type: Choose between data from our currently available satellite sensors.
  1. AVHRR: our bread and butter; a sensor on several polar orbiting satelites
  2. MODIS: a more advanced sensor on two polar orbiting satellites
  3. GEOS: a high temporal resolution sensor on a geostationary satellite operated by NOAA
  4. MTSAT: a high temporal resolution sensor on a geostationary satellite operated by Japan

Image Band: Each satellite sensor detects energy in multiple wavelengths and/or resolutions. This menu lets you
choose between them.

When the mouse is over the image, the up and down arrow keys change the band displayed.
Date Range: How far back from the current time should images be displayed from. Note that this rule will be invoked
at each refresh, see the "refresh" option below.
Flip Delay: The delay between changing images. Select "manual" for image-by-image control. Note that downloading
images can take longer than this delay.

When the mouse is over the image, the left and right arrow keys work as the left and right buttons, below.
Loop: When "Y" is selected, the images are flipped in an endless loop. Y / N
Refresh: When "Y" is selected, the list of images to show will be updated automatically every 15 minutes. Y / N
Notation: Volcanoes may be marked with text and/or icons.
  1. alert volcanoes: volcanoes at elevated color code
  2. recent volcanoes: volcanoes at elevated color code within the past 2 years
  3. volcano icons: place circles around all monitored volcanoes
  4. volcano names: place circles and text at all monitored volcanoes

To analyze a feature:

  • Switch Flip Delay to manual.
  • Shift-click to add a select point.
  • Ctrl-click to remove a selection point.
  • Choose a volcano.
  • Click Analyze Region.
